Winter Gold is a winter sports video game with events like bobsled, ski jump or snowboarding, all in a 3D graphics environment.[2] Both single player and multi-player options are available; up to eight players can compete in the "competition mode".[2] The game used the Super FX 2 chip.[4] Speeds are measured out in miles per hour while a timer appears to record the time it takes to get from start to finish.[5]

The intro and overall style of the game is based on the popular Amiga demo State of the Art by Spaceballs.
